He said, you could put it to better use, Michael. 00:54 And so he gave me these ancient coins, and he knows I'm interested in history. 00:58 ancient history and civilizations and of course most interested in the modern civilization that we are living in and the emergence of a retrograde interest in in socialism and so today's program is devoted to this topic of a castle in the air now why am i calling socialism a castle in the air it's self-explanatory don't you think Anyone who can put two and two together can figure that one out. 01:32 A castle in the air, says Michael Savage. 01:36 Free bananas in New York and now in Michigan. 01:41 I don't know what he's promising, but it's anything but Trump. 01:46 And if you don't see both sides of what is happening, you're blind. 01:53 Part of the reason we have these non-entities who've achieved nothing in their lives rising to these positions of power is because those in positions of power have abused their positions of power. That's a full sentence which you can take to the bank, Cenk. 02:10 Now, I'm going to continue to wax eloquently and such, but first I'm going to have a sip of coffee. And this could be seen any time of day, but it's early in the morning for me still, really, honestly. 02:24 I know any of you don't want to see me drinking coffee or what on the air. I really don't care. 02:32 Socialism, a castle in the air. 02:36 So let me begin at the beginning, which I've already done. I've done shows on the decline of the West by Spengler. They're terrific. I did two podcasts on this in the past. You should understand that I think I have over 400 podcasts. 02:54 It's in a library and they're all for free. 02:57 These two are in there. There's so much in here. 03:01 And you'll notice I've dipped into it a few times here and there. 03:05 like the Bible itself. I haven't picked it up recently. In fact, I lost it in my house. I couldn't find it. And I found it in a box somewhere, which was interesting because I found the key to something I was looking for as well. There's so many things in my life that I haven't lost track of them. It's just a lot of stuff. After many years, you start to collect so many things. But this book is a gem. 03:33 And I'm going to touch on a castle in the air, the socialist dream that is being sold to the children and the people who want something for nothing. 03:45 I'll also talk about another topic in here, here and there, which is how is it possible that not that many years after 9-11, Muslims are winning elections in New York City and in Michigan? How is it possible? 04:04 Well, there's an answer to that as well. 04:06 And the answer is Israel. 04:08 I'm afraid that Israel is the reason. 04:11 If you don't see that, then you're blind. Maybe you don't want to hear it. 04:15 But I'll tell you what I think is the truth and what's going on. I didn't say I know the solution. Don't get me wrong. 04:21 Remember, I'm only a talker here. 04:24 I'm not a politician. 04:28 In that sense, I'm not a problem solver. 04:32 but perhaps by elucidating the question, we can come up with an answer. 04:39 Those who think they know the answers are the most dangerous in some ways, in some ways not. There are answers to questions, but we're talking today about a castle in the sky or a castle in the air, meaning socialism. It promises everything to everyone and of course delivers nothing to everyone. 05:03 Take a look at Cuba, the ex-Soviet Union, and other countries that are purely socialist. 05:10 They all fail. There's no medicine. There's no food. People are starving. They're all serfs. And there's a few people on top who are the leaders. This is what socialism actually becomes everywhere it's been tried. 05:23 But you can't tell that to the people in the streets of New York or Detroit. They don't want to hear it. They want to believe that they're going to have a perfect world if they have a Muslim leader, which is ironic since Islam is a religion that is more a political organization in many ways than it is a religion. 05:47 And it's moving rapidly as it did centuries ago, conquering one nation after another, not only through demographics, but also through the belief in the sufficiency of a single book, the holy book that they have. Everyone else's book should be burned. Oh, they don't say it, of course. They do it, though, where they have the power. 06:09 Ask the soldiers who have no legs who have come back from fighting them. 06:15 And at the same time this is going on, most notably our war with Iran, which some would say is an unnecessary war brought about by Israel's leader Netanyahu. Not Israel itself, but this one leader, Netanyahu. 06:33 I know it's an uncomfortable position to take for many. 06:39 There are other, and I've said this before, and I guess I have to say it again. There are other war heroes in Israel who are not quite as militant as Netanyahu. 06:50 Some of them are also four-star generals. 06:53 They rose higher in the military than he did, and they're completely opposite to him politically. You don't know of them. I interviewed one of them years ago. 07:04 And so we don't hear from them. The nation of Israel has now become virtually a dictatorship where for 16 years, one man is the leader, power corrupts, absolute power corrupts, absolutely. It's true in Israel. It's true in any nation where there are no term limits. 07:24 The more power any single individual accrues, the more corrupt they become. It's just like a theorem That holds true. It doesn't matter what the nation is. 07:37 Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts, absolutely. Wherever there is no term limits, a dictatorship emerges. 07:49 Let me tell you what's happening while the legacy media sleeps. This could be the biggest story of the decade, and yet you're not going to hear about it from the traditional talking heads. That became the narrative. 10:34 Now, if you want to know where I stand on all of this, I guess I should explain it. When this started, and I support the state of Israel, the Jews have a right to a homeland. That's their homeland. They've been there for 5,000 years. Read your Bible, end of story. But that's not the story. That's not the whole story. 10:50 Let's look at Gaza for one minute before I go into the story about a castle in the air. 10:57 When this thing started on October 7th, when Israel, The inhabitants of Gaza crossed the border and committed the atrocities that we all know occurred. 11:13 A lot of questions emerged. The number one question was, how could this have happened in a state like Israel, which has the most advanced surveillance in the world? 11:24 Cameras on the border that are unmatched anywhere on Earth. Cameras that could see a sand flea moving on the desert sand. 11:33 How did they cross the border with gliders and come in and grab tanks? So then the theories, the conspiracy theories arose that the government of Israel permitted it to happen like a Pearl Harbor in order to marshal a people against the enemy and coalesce them together and in order to aggrandize even more power to the government. That's one theory. It's something that has to be discussed and it will be, I'm sure, for years to come. 12:03 However, right at the outset, if you follow my broadcast and go back to some of my broadcasts when this occurred, shortly thereafter, there were movements within Israel to take over most of Gaza, and I opposed it even then. I said, wait a minute now. Hold it. You're going to displace a million people with donkeys? 12:24 What is that going to look like to the world? You can't do that. 12:27 I said that, I say it again, right or wrong, I know the whole history of Gaza, okay, including eyeless in Gaza. 12:36 Well, right now, there are a lot of people who are eyeless in Gaza and eyeless in Israel. They're blind, and they don't see what the hell is going on in the whole world. You can blame the other side all you want. But now, bringing it back home to America, a lot of what's going on in American politics is directly related to what went on in Gaza and the after effects of October 7th, the atrocities by the Arab Muslims from Gaza on the Jewish people. The overreaction, the grabbing of territory, the imperialism, if you wish to put it in that context, of the Netanyahu government, you have to be blind not to see what's going on. 13:22 And people are saying, wait a minute, this is all wrong. We don't like it. So then you have these unknown demagogues of Muslim extraction rising from the gutters and gaining traction in America. So now put this whole thing in context. 13:38 Put this whole thing in context and bring it to a bigger picture, Michael. That's what Michael wants to do today. Socialism, a castle in the air. 13:47 Everyone loves my originality And of course, I seek to bring you an original perspective on things. 13:55 And I hope you appreciate what I'm about to tell you. 14:00 So let me first begin. I'm not going to summarize a thousand page book. 14:04 Again, if you want to know more about the history of the decline of the West and where this all fits in, please go back to my archives of the Michael Savage podcast. I did two excellent broadcasts, I think, on this book. You could do 200 and you still wouldn't cover it. This man was perhaps one of the greatest geniuses of all time. Some people know it and some people never heard of him. But that's okay. That's the way the world is. 14:29 So the back cover of The Decline of the West has a few words on it that are worth talking about. 14:38 This book described great cultures following a cycle from inception to expansion, followed by death. 14:46 By understanding this cycle, one could reconstruct the past and predict the future. He specifically predicted that in the final stage of Western civilization, in the 20th century, Caesarism, a new and overpowering leadership would arise. 15:06 Caesarism, a new and overpowering leadership would arise, replacing individualism, liberalism, and democracy. 15:14 Even though this book was criticized by scholars, it became a bestseller in the 1920s and laid the foundation for the social cycle theory, which states that stages of history generally repeat themselves in cycles. 15:28 Incredible. 15:30 So how do I summarize a thousand page book and keep you interested when I'm supposed to be bashing socialism? 15:38 like any talk show host would be doing today. Socialism, socialism, socialism, it's no good. Socialism, no good. Well, that's one way to look at it. 15:52 Another way to look at it is in a broader context of why it's attracting attention here in America. That's because of the imperialistic tendencies of the other side in America, the overbearing tendencies greed, the overbearing self-dealing, the overbearing disregard for everyone else except those at the top. 16:21 And by the way, it didn't start with Trump. Look back on Biden. 16:26 Forget that he flooded the border in order to stack the deck against the American people. 16:32 Look at what Biden did aside from that. 16:35 They also self-dealt. They also did what they could to pocket as much guilt as they could. 16:43 This has not always been true in all men who have led this country, whether they have been Democrats or Republicans. 16:51 We have a new breed of, let us say, self-interest, a new breed of those involved only in self-interest. 17:05 And so resistance to socialism, no matter what form it wears, resistance to socialism, no matter what form it may wear, okay, is important, but it cannot be done simply based upon childish phrases. 17:27 So do we fight socialism? No. 17:30 Yes. How do you fight socialism when they call themselves progress or progressives? 17:38 Progress unto itself is a typically socialistic phrase. 17:43 They're related. Progress and socialism are genetically related as a body is to a skeleton. 17:54 And so... 17:55 When you hear progressive, the word really means socialist, which means taking from those who have and giving to those who do not have. 18:04 And on the face of it, that sounds nice. Why should only a few people have all this stuff? 18:09 But when you realize how high the taxes are in America, for those of us who are in the upper income brackets, where I pay over 50 percent of every dollar I make in state and federal taxes, how much do you want to take from me until I stop working altogether? 18:23 And I'm an older man, but there are younger men who are very ambitious, who work very hard for themselves. And the high taxation inhibits their drive. So they move to states where there are no taxes, like Florida, and they leave a communist state like California. Eventually, California will be hollowed out. There'll be nothing but welfare patients left here and old people. 18:50 So if you look at this in the broader context and you see where we are going, you understand that these elections are not an anomaly necessarily. They may be actually part of a pattern. 19:03 And the reason they are part of this pattern, where socialists are winning here and there, and winning in big places, incidentally, is because the West is in decline. 19:16 And so what are the symptoms of Western decline? 19:20 Let's go back to Spengler the genius. 19:25 He said that the West entered its winter phase in the 19th century. 19:34 And he predicted several modern symptoms that would mark its final centuries. 19:40 One was the rise of the megacity, the drain of rural populations into massive soul-destroying urban centers dominated by a rootless nomad populace. 19:51 He argued that the West is in its winter phase or would be in its winter phase in our time because of the rise of the megacity and because of the rule of money. 20:02 He said democracy eroding into an oligarchy where financial power controls the press and manipulates public opinion. 20:10 Wow. 20:13 He also said Caesarism would arise. 20:17 the eventual collapse of democracy into raw post-constitutional politics where charismatic strongman sees direct executive power. It's chilling. 20:30 He also said there would be sterility of art and thought with true artistic innovation dying out, replaced by massive scales of production, functional architecture, and repetitive entertainment. Again, chilling, chilling. 20:47 Now, Spengler was heavily criticized by academic historians for factual generalizations and profound fatalism, but it deeply influenced 20th century literature and philosophy, leaving imprints on figures like Kafka, Wittgenstein, and modern social cycle theorists. 21:11 I know most of you are not studying Spengler. He's probably not even read anymore, especially with DEI teachers right now. I don't think they can even read, let alone teach philosophy. But for those of you who are interested in philosophy, I recommend that you read The Decline of the West, ladies and gentlemen. 21:28 And you'll see that we are actually in this phase that he predicted. I gave you the symptoms of Western decline. 21:38 Now let's go back to the book itself, the monumental work of historical philosophy that rejects linear progression of human history. It's not linear. He saw it as an organic cyclical model. 21:55 And Spengler posited that civilizations are not immortal. 22:00 Instead, he said civilizations behave like living organisms that experience a natural life cycle of birth, growth, maturity, and inevitable decay. It was written before World War I, but it happened to coincide with Germany's defeat in World War I, and it made it an overnight intellectual sensation because it offered a stark diagnosis of a dying Western culture, Germany at that time. 22:25 The core philosophy of Spengler is based upon a cyclical anatomy. 22:32 Spengler viewed distinct high cultures as living entities bound to a predictable lifespan of roughly 1,000 years. 22:41 Every culture undergoing a spring birth and mythos, summer metaphysical creativity, autumn intellectual fulfillment, and winter rationalistic decline. 22:53 Culture, to him, represents the youth of a society characterized by raw vitality, artistic passion, and spiritual depth. Civilization is the final frozen stage where creative energy runs dry, giving way to cold intellect, urbanization, and materialism. 23:11 Spengler identified eight major independent cultures throughout human history, each possessing its own unique worldview or soul. The first culture that he defined was Faustian modern Western civilization driven by a soul of infinite space, endless exploration and tragic striving. The next one was Apollonian, classical Greek-Roman fixed on the immediate physical present, statuesque beauty and localized geometry. Next came Magian, Arabian and Middle Eastern, centered around a cavernous world feeling, prophetic revelations, and a dualistic battle between light and dark. 23:49 Then there were the Indian, Chinese, Egyptian, Babylonian, and Mesoamerican or Mayan Aztec, which I referred to several times on my show by saying to you, our worldview is not the only worldview as someone who's lived in other cultures, breathed the other cultures, spent nights in other cultures. 24:09 I've showed you this little thing, this Mesoamerican or Aztec carving. 24:19 Many of you say, oh, it's just idolatry. Throw it away. I've had it with me my whole life. Probably got it in my father's antique store. 24:29 And what I'm saying to you is that one of the civilizations, one of the major civilizations, in addition to our own Western, Apollonian, Magian, Indian, Chinese, Egyptian, Babylonian, and Maya and Aztec, these are all civilizations. 24:46 Spengler argued that the West entered its winter phase in the 19th century. 24:51 And as I told you, he predicted several modern symptoms that would mark its final centuries. The rise of the megacity, the rule of money, Caesarism, sterility of art and thought, the decline of the West. 25:04 This all spins right back to socialism, a castle in the air. 25:09 Many of the young people, as uneducated and as foolish as they may be, are idealists who believe that socialism is the wave of the future because it's more fair. 25:23 Castro promised that to the people of Cuba when he overthrew Batista, and they loved him in the beginning. He actually didn't tell them he was a communist. 25:31 He said he was a revolutionary to overthrow the fascist dictator called Batista. 25:37 And that everyone would eat better and live better in Cuba. But what happened was Castro was nothing but a mafioso, a gangster. And he accrued all the power to the top. In fact, after he won, he said, even to the Americans, he said, I'm not a communist. 25:53 And his followers didn't think he was a communist. And when he declared himself to be a communist, Fidel, some of his followers said, wait a minute now, Fidel, you said from the beginning, we are not communists. 26:05 We're just trying to equalize the scale here in Cuba. Well, what he did was arrest, imprison, and shoot his own comrades who opposed him right out of animal farm. 26:17 It's exactly what happened in Cuba. It's what happened in the Soviet Union. It's what happened in Mao's China. 26:24 Even though Mao himself was a communist, the followers who were not as extreme as him were eventually tortured and killed. 26:32 And that's exactly where we are today in America with these Beautiful socialist telling us about this ideal world with free bananas. 26:41 And cheap buses. 26:43 And everyone's going to live fairly. That's not what's going to happen. 26:47 So the naked greed of capitalism. 26:58 is not necessarily the only face of capitalism. There is a compassionate capitalism that has disappeared in America. 27:08 Remember, I wrote The Compassionate Conservative 25 years ago. The Compassionate Conservative. I was the father of compassionate conservatism in America. We're not living in compassionate conservatism anymore. We're living in another phase That doesn't mean all of capitalism should be thrown out the window. 27:30 Okay, do you understand that there are gradations of capitalism just as there are gradations of socialism? 27:36 I guess no one's explained that in great detail, but you can pretty much figure out what I'm saying to you. 27:41 So when I talk about socialism, a castle in the air, I'm also talking about why it's suddenly rising. Why does Western civilization seem to be doomed right now with Muslims rising in America in the Democrat Party? 28:02 Is Western civilization doomed? 28:05 Are we inevitably going to decay and die and become some despotic Arab socialist state? 28:15 That will eat its own? 28:17 I don't think so. 28:19 But things are happening, and if we're not aware of what's happening, we're going to repeat history. Those who do not know the history are condemned to repeat it. So I hope you do understand that I'm trying to put all of this in context. Maybe there's too much information all at once. It's not simplistic with soundbites for a new show. It is not. It's a little more complex than that. 28:40 In fact, it's a lot more complex than that. 28:43 So the question is, where are we going to go now? 28:46 Where do we go now? 28:49 Are these elections that we are seeing, which I told you when they started to occur, where a pattern and many people said I was wrong. I saw this when this started a year ago and I was telling you about it. People were telling me I was wrong. No, it was only an offshoot. It was it was a shot, you know, flash of the pan shot in the dark. No, no, no. I saw a trend. 29:08 And now we see the trend is emerging even more clearly. not only in the Democrat Party, but in Western nations in general, with the large influx of millions of poor and hungry people, of course they want something for nothing. They move into a beautiful nation like Sweden or Norway, and they see people living in beautiful homes, beautiful cars, beautiful women, and they want it. 29:35 They want it now. They're not going to work like I did as an immigrant son. 29:39 Oh, I wanted it also. I lived in Manhattan, my father's store. I'd see them going by in limousines. I didn't hate them. I wanted a limousine. 29:48 I didn't hate the woman shopping at Bonwet Teller. 29:53 I was a mere teacher earning $5,000 a year in Manhattan. I saw everything going past my eyes. And when I saw the woman, the women, the matrons in their limos being the driver drove them up to a beautiful store, went out, opened the door and the lady got out and she went and went shopping. He waited for her. She came out. There were no bums on the street to steal her packages. She got back in her limousine. The driver gently closed the door and he drove her home. 30:25 I didn't hate that woman. 30:28 I didn't want to kill that woman. I envied that woman. I admired that woman. 30:33 I wanted to be that woman. 30:35 Meaning I wanted that car. I wanted that driver. 30:39 Well, now that I have the ability to have the car and driver, I don't want it. I haven't for a long time. I don't really need a car and drive. I'd rather drive myself or walk or ride my bicycle. 30:50 But the story has a metaphorical context to it. 30:53 which is you don't have to hate the rich. You can envy the rich and admire the rich and try to become the rich, not by killing them and taking what's theirs, but by working your ass off seven days a week for 24 hours a day and putting your mind to work, not to blogging. 31:13 And understand that you can still become one of the wealthy in America. If you have a product to offer or a service to offer or you're willing to work and save, you can move up in society. You see what I'm saying? You don't have to hate to get what you want. You can admire what the others have and try to achieve it. 31:34 That's not being taught right now. What's being taught now is the rich stole it from you. 31:39 whether in this world or another continent, and you should take it from them. That's what they're teaching in the colleges today. 31:46 That's naked communism. That's exactly what Mamdami is teaching. That's exactly what the entire socialist world is teaching, is that anyone who has money took it from the poor. 31:58 And so the poor now beat people up in the street, unprovoked attack. 32:03 When you see a person of color with an unprovoked attack on an old white woman in the street, that's because their brain was fed the idea that that old white woman took it from them from another time or place. 32:15 I think that concludes much of what I want to say today. 32:19 There's always more to say. You know, the making of many books, there is no end. Ecclesiastes, that's where it's found. And the making of a good broadcast, there is no end. There's always more and more and more. 32:33 Another and another and another. 32:35 Always. In other words, broadcasts need not be complete. 32:41 In fact, they cannot be complete if they're good. 32:44 If a broadcast is good, it raises not only questions, but a desire for more information from the individual broadcasting that particular show. There's always more to be said. 32:55 And I leave you with that thought. I've been with you now for 30 minutes, which is good. It's a good long time. 33:02 The average listenership is about two minutes or three minutes on social media, believe it or not. The older people learn to listen more because they went to school and they had to really buckle down in order to pass an exam. Today, all they have to do is say that they need extra time and that they have a disability and they need to cheat on a test and call it fairness. It's crazy. But those of you who are older, the 65 plus, who actually are my primary audience, I'm proud to say. 33:29 I'm proud of it. I'm proud that most of the people in my audience are older people because they grew up with the same values I have. 33:37 Hard work, period, end of story. 33:41 And they can relate to me. 33:44 Many races, by the way, not just white people, not just Jewish people. 33:49 I got a lot of black listeners who love my show. You can find cab drivers from Nigeria who love my show, by the way. They also came here to work, many of them, or come here to work. Not all of them are freeloaders. Not all of them are bums. Not all of them want socialism, incidentally. 34:06 The hardest working people I know are Mexican people. They don't want socialism. 34:11 They hate it. 34:13 They're free market capitalists. They work their asses off. They are the hardest working people I've ever seen in my life from Mexico. 34:20 So it's not race based. 34:23 It's value based. 34:25 And I think on that note, I'll end where I began. Socialism is a castle in the air that is being constructed by the magicians. 34:40 who feed them the big lie that bananas will be free, buses will be free, housing will be free, Medicaid, medical care for everyone will be free. 34:52 People said to me, come on, Michael, come on. The reason you could afford a house back in 1974 for only 45,000 with 9,000 down, well, because medical care was cheaper. I said, no, it wasn't. I had no medical plan. I had young children, a young child, and we had to pay for every time we went to a doctor out of our pockets. 35:09 So guess what? We went to the doctor less. 35:12 We treated ourselves. We ate better. We took vitamins. We exercised. 35:17 Today, if a person has a sneeze, they go to the doctor because it's free. That's why the hospitals are full. That's why the doctors, you can't get in to see. Everyone wants a free visit to a doctor who doesn't even look at you. 35:29 They look on the wall, they look at a chart, and they talk to you on the wall. Let's see, you're 192 pounds and this and that. And they're not looking at you, they're looking at the wall. And you're sitting there shivering on a chair with paper under your behind. 35:43 That's not medical care. That's not healing. 35:46 It's a technician sending you home with another pill and telling you to come back in three weeks for another test. 35:53 What I'm saying is we had no medical care. We had an emergency. We went to an emergency room, paid for it.
