Episode's summary
Laura’s algorithm has been serving her a lot of parenting advice lately, and some of it is making her question decisions she already feels good about. Today, we’re unpacking Dr Erica Komisar’s views on daycare, the pressure to put motherhood ahead of everything else, and why so much parenting content leaves mums feeling guilty. We’re talking about how social media algorithms can turn one little doubt into a whole feed of reasons to second-guess yourself, the difference between guilt and feeling judged, and who gets to decide what makes a good mum. Plus, why parenting advice needs a little more nuance, and how to find your own way through the noise. A huge thank you to Toyota for supporting this episode of Bump with Steph and Laura. Our pettiest parenting moments
ListenedWhat's the pettiest thing you've ever done as a parent? We came across a hilarious TikTok from @kristenbright sharing some very petty parenting moments, and naturally, we had to unpack our own. From tiny acts of revenge to the ridiculous things we do when we're running on empty... this is a reminder that we all do it! Then, Steph shares a deeply personal conversation she had with her mum about her childhood, and it got us thinking: how well do we really know the people who raised us? We chat about the questions we can all ask our parents and older loved ones to uncover the stories and experiences that shaped them. New KIC product alert! Shop KIC Hydration here now! Tis' the season of overwhelm
ListenedIt feels like everyone around us is overwhelmed right now, so today we’re getting into why everything suddenly feels like a lot. We’re coming out of winter, the weather is warming up, life is getting busier, and there’s suddenly this pressure to get back into gear. Steph had a particularly big day at the passport office and kinder, which got us talking about admin, the mental load, and the fear of becoming the mum who needs to be reminded about everything. We’re unpacking why the little things can suddenly feel huge, the pressure to keep up with everything our kids are doing, and how motherhood can change your relationship with your own time, identity and priorities. Plus, we’re talking about what actually helps when you’re feeling overwhelmed, and why your “village” might look very different to what you imagined. View the comments on Laura's daycare video here. Mich was around 25 weeks pregnant when she found out her beautiful mum, Vicky, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer. After a traumatic birth experience with Sadie, Mich shares the fears and emotions that have started to arise as she thinks about her next birth experience.
